History and a PortraitThis is a portrait I took of my friend, Abraham Blue Eagle Sittingdown, of California. During a visit in Kansas, Abraham was recording his grandfather’s stories detailing their family history...It later gave me the inkling to pursue my grandmother for stories of her youth and the experience of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. Following a few days of listening to Abrahams family stories, I took a portrait of him with bare feet...in the very soil that his family had so much history invested in. The portrait was taken on transparency film with a medium format camera, to still the memory.
